The verses are broken up with an instrumental middle section with Page, Jones, and Bonham. For the third verse, Plant returns to singing accompanied by guitar chording. Page also adds pedal steel guitar fills however, he departs from the typical American country music approach by adding a wah-wah pedal tonal effect. Through the use of double tracking, Plant provides a harmony vocal line. The second verse contains the chorus, at the beginning of which Jones on bass and drummer John Bonham come in – Jones follows the chord changes and Bonham plays a straightforward, backing beat.

They loved big one time in their lives and it also destroyed them. The love of my life passed away a year ago to this day and he said he will meet my dad in heaven and play music together. This song basically came to me in a dream I had where I saw my real father who had passed away.
